Problem
Letting agencies often rely on a mixture of spreadsheets, shared inboxes and separate systems to manage their properties, tenants, compliance and finances. This makes it harder to keep information connected, track important deadlines and reconcile rent and landlord payments.
The aim was to build a single platform that brought these workflows together, making day-to-day property management simpler and reducing the amount of manual administration involved.
Approach
I designed, built and operated Estate Portal as a full SaaS product for UK letting agencies.
The platform connected the entire lettings workflow, from property and tenant records through to enquiries, viewings, maintenance, compliance and document management. I also built the financial side, including automated rent schedules, payment tracking, expenses, management fees, VAT and landlord statements.
Beyond the features themselves, I had to build the foundations needed for a real business to rely on the software: user permissions, secure document storage, audit trails, automated reminders, backups, billing, deployment and ongoing support.
It was a great opportunity to take a project beyond a simple web app and experience what it takes to build and operate a complete commercial product.
Outcome
Estate Portal became a live SaaS product used by letting agencies, with real customer requirements and operational workflows to support.
The project took me through the full product lifecycle, from initial requirements and development to launch, customer onboarding and ongoing operation.
In September 2026, the client acquired the platform rather than proceeding with our original two-year arrangement. The software is now being integrated into their wider estate agency operation, with existing customers transitioned across.
It was my first commissioned SaaS project, and seeing the product go from an idea to something a client valued enough to acquire was a particularly rewarding outcome.
